The electrical wiring

The electrical wires are 1.5 mm rubber insulated copper wires, wrapped and painted black. The main wiring harness is assembled and held in a braided black covering.

The ends of the wires for the switch and the ignition coil have soldered square connectors with a number stamped on them. The numbers on the connectors are in italics.

The earliest electric wiring systems had a wire running directly from the switch to the rear light. With the introduction of the brake light and switch, starting around No 1400 the tail light wire runs to the L terminal and another wire runs from the battery to the B terminal on the brake light switch.

From the brake light terminals S and L a double wire is running to the brake light and the taillight. Please see “Schematic of the electrical installation of Nimbus 34” on page 87.

The electrical system has a 20 Amp. fuse, fitted in the earth lead of the battery. The fuse is fitted in a Bakelite fuse holder, screwed onto the ball and spring lock on the gearbox.

The main wiring harness is fitted against the bottom right side of the head tube with a traditional clamp and against the underside of the frame with a flat steel brace which also serves as a mounting plate for the frame/chassis number plate.
